A few months ago, I had chronic urinary tract infections. Anything from swimming in a public pool to using a public toilet would trigger an UTI. No matter how careful I was or which products I used, i.e., wet wipes, paper seat covers, toilet disinfectant spray, you name it within two days I’d be greeted with sharp pains, a burning sensation and/or excessive discharge.
So, after taking all the antibiotics I could take and seeing the discomfort and unease it brought to my life, I took the leap into understanding UTIs. Here is what I found: urinary tract infections (UTIs) are responsible for nearly 10 million doctor visits each year. Almost twenty percent of women who are diagnosed with a UTI will suffer another, and thirty percent of those yet another. Of this last group, eighty percent will have chronic re-occurrences.
UTIs are caused by a type of bacteria called E. coli (pronounced ee-colie). These bacteria normally live in your intestines, but they sometimes get into the urinary tract causing infection. This is the standard UTI however, within the UTI category there is one that stood out for me, called a Metabolic Bladder Infection.
A Metabolic Bladder Infection is an infection caused by excess metabolic (physiology process) waste (substances left over from excretion) in the bladder, not caused by the e-coli bacteria like normal bladder infections.
How to use: Mix the following in 100ml of water
15 x drops of Uva Ursi or Buchu
30 x drops of Marshmallow
15 x drops of Yarrow
To be taken 3x daily after meals.
How it works:
- You become ill and take a supplement/medication (normally an antibiotic) to alleviate your symptoms.
- To combat the pathology, your body will naturally produce more antibodies than usual.
- Once the action and process of eliminating the pathology is complete, your system will have an increased amount of metabolic waste to dispose of due to the increased antibodies.
- If your body does not excrete the excess metabolic waste in sufficient time, this causes the body to have a secondary infection resulting in continuous re-infection.
The above information resonated as it explained why the infection did not clear up completely. It also explains why in my case, antibiotics would not be my best option as it does not protect my bladder from the excess metabolic waste.
I decided to consult a homeopath and she suggested I use the following products from MediRoots (Pty) Ltd: Uva Ursi, Buchu, Marshmallow and Yarrow. They are natural remedies that best treat most bladder infections.
Uva Ursi and Buchu are natural antibiotics which can be used to prevent further infections. Marshmallow lines the bladder, covering developed cuts and sores and thus relieving pain when urinating. Yarrow is an effective cure and treatment for cystitis, bladder infections and UTIs. Marshmallow and Yarrow combined are used for decreasing the inflammation of the original infection
